Processes and depressions in bones

Bone head: Rounded end of a bone separated from the body of the bone by a neck and usually covered by an articular process

Trochanter: Large process on the femur for the attachment of muscle

Tubercle: Small, rounded process on many bones for muscle and tendon attachment

Tuberosity: Large, rounded process

Condyle:  Rounded, knuckle like process at a joint, usually covered by articular cartilage

Depressions

Bone depressions are openings or hollow regions in a bone that help join one bone to another and serve as a passageway for blood vessels and nerves

Fossa: Shallow cavity in or on a bone

Foramen: Opening for blood vessels and nerves

Fissure: Narrow, deep, slit-like opening

Sinus: A hollow cavity within a bone
